We have had a lot of change happen in our plans to go to Haiti over the last month or so. All for the better and nothing bad! So super excited to share with you about our new plan that God has set before us. We have been accepted into a Discipleship Training School (DTS) that takes place in Haiti through a mission organization called Youth With a Mission (YWAM). This schooling is a 5 month program in which we spend the first 3 months intently building our relationship with Christ. We focus on who he is, who he is in us, to us and through us! We will spend time in worship, lecture, one on one discipleship and then put that into action. We will spend the following 2 months on mission around Haiti sharing the love of Christ and what we have had poured into us we then pour out into the Haitian people. We are so very very excited about this!

Great news also is that we are able to be home for the holidays; which our family is super happy about!
The school starts on January 12, 2014. We are to arrive in country on January 10, 2014. We will live on the YWAM base in St. Marc, Haiti. We will have an apartment for our family while the other students will live with each other. We will be on campus together but this way we still can maintain our family unit a little more comfortably. Yes, all of the kids are going with us. I don't know why that's an automatic question for most people when we say we are moving to Haiti to be missionaries but it is. lol So, just to reassure you all, yes, we love all our kids and have decided to keep them with us even when we go overseas! LOL Seriously, I don't know what I'd do without them!
So, I know you all have some questions and I hope to answer them all - if I don't and you want to ask - please do!
Have you sold your house? Not yet. Praying for the right buyer and the right price and praying it comes soon!
When is the school? Jan to June 2014
What happens after school? We will come home briefly to debrief everyone and raise monthly support if our goal is not met by then and then head back to be commissioned in the field.
Will you still be teaching at the Bible College and partnering with the orphanage you had planned to? No, we have decided to do this route as it is safer for us and is where we can get more training and support to be able to effectively minister.
What is the cost? The cost of the DTS for Bryan and I is $4,000 each. The kids will only be charged for food which is about $130 a kid a month.
What about airfare? We have an awesome travel agent with Golden Rule Travel which works with missionaries and humanitarian agencies that we have used for all of our adoptions and mission travel. They have some great pricing right now on our tickets to Haiti. We plan to leave from Florida to reduce the cost of flying 8 people overseas. The cost from Florida to Port au Prince as of a few days ago was only $172 a person one way! Super great price!
One way? Aren't you coming back? Yes, we are. It is cheaper to do one way tickets right now with not knowing for sure our return date. We don't want to have to change the flights and end up paying a $150 per person change fee. Makes sense right?
What do your kids think? They are ready to go! They have their days of course where they get sad about their friends they will leave behind here but they are excited about the new friends they will make in Haiti and they understand we are here to make a difference and to share the love of Christ with others. They are excited to be able to do so in Haiti! They are looking forward to the warmth and can't wait to play with all the kids there.
What's the long and short of it?
Well, we need to raise some funds. A lot of funds. We need to purchase plane tickets, pay for our family to attend DTS and raise monthly support.
We have had several people ask how they can support us. We need your help and we need it fast. We have until Dec 15 to book our flights and we need to pay our fees. That is just a few days y'all! We just got accepted into this school this last week and thus the short notice. We had told you we needed $20,000 or so to get our family there originally with our first plan and that number has actually decreased for this program. Rather than having to rent a house and a car, that money will go to the DTS instead. This is a sound investment in our future and the future of those The Lord will bring into our paths.
While we had hoped to sell our home and use those funds to get us there, it hasn't happened yet and The Lord has been dealing with us on our pride and the fact that we didn't want to ask for money or have to depend on others to help us do his work... well, that is a wrong way of thinking. We are all part of the same body and we are called to help each other. We all have a part to play in missions. All are called to share the good news! Some are called to go, others are called to send. When we heard the Lord ask if we would go - we said yes. We do need you.
Isaiah 6:8 “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
Matthew 28:19, 20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
We need your help to do this work. All donations made through YWAM are 100% tax deductible. If you are looking for a great year end tax deduction, please consider donating to our missionary work. Here is the address for YWAM -
If you want to help pay for our DTS please send it here WITH a note saying it is for The HORNER FAMILY DTS TUITION. It is imperative you put our name with your check.
